HR Certification Assessment
Prepare to demonstrate your capability in alignment with the AHRCF
Ready to boost your credibility as a CPHR?
To become a CPHR you must successfully complete the HR Certification Assessment.
The HR Certification Assessment presents a unique opportunity to demonstrate your capability, skills, knowledge and behaviours in alignment with the Australian HR Capability Framework (AHRCF) at an ‘Emerging Leader’ level or higher.
You will be given 11 weeks to complete the first three stages of the HR Certification Assessment before your application is to be officially endorsed by AHRI’s National Certification Council (NCC).
The HR Certification Assessment comprises four stages
The Certification Assessment ensures that leaders are rigorously benchmarked against the Australian HR Capability Framework at an ‘Emerging Leader’ level. The phased assessment approach enables HR practitioners to validate their skills and experience through real world achievements and scenario-based activities.
Stage 1
Multiple choice questionnaire
The multiple choice questionnaire consists of 28 questions that cover each capability area of the AHRCF.
This stage of the HR Certification Assessment accounts for 20% of your total mark and must be:
- Completed in one 90-minute sitting.
- Completed within 28 days.
Stage 2
Written
response
For your written response, choose either a hypothetical scenario or a workplace project. Demonstrate your capability by addressing a complex workplace or HR problem and submit your comprehensive response.
The written response is broken into 3 tasks with a 500 word limit for each task.
- Task 1: Defining a HR or business problem
- Task 2: Designing the solution
- Task 3: Detailing the approach taken for implementing the solution.
- Appendices: Supporting material can also be supplied.
This stage of the HR Certification Assessment accounts for 40% of your total mark and must be completed within 21 days.
Stage 3
Professional discussion
In this final stage, you’ll meet with an AHRI Assessor who will review your Stage 1 and 2 submissions. The Assessor may ask follow-up questions, including those related to your case study or workplace project, to clarify or explore your responses. This discussion acts as a final check to confirm your capability level and determine the outcome of your HR Certification Assessment.
This stage of the HR Certification Assessment accounts for 40% of your total mark and follows a flexible schedule, allowing up to 28 days for completion.
The HR Certification Assessment takes approximately 45 – 60 minutes.
Stage 4
Official endorsement
Once you successfully complete all stages of the HR Certification Assessment, the Assessor will make a recommendation for endorsement by AHRI’s National Certification Council (NCC) which meets quarterly.
Successful submissions that meet the Australian HR Capability Framework at ‘Emerging Leader’ standards are officially endorsed, and you will be formally notified by the NCC Chair. This endorsement grants you the right to use the CPHR post-nominal, along with a verified CPHR digital badge issued by AHRI via Credly.
Your HR Certification Assessment is reviewed collectively, and you will receive a final academic grade based on your overall performance across the three assessment tasks.
Unsuccessful candidates will also be advised. Please read our FAQs for more information about unsuccessful assessments.
The HR Certification Assessment is exclusive to Professional—MAHRI members (or higher).
Eligible Associate members can upgrade to Professional—MAHRI membership via your AHRI member dashboard. Or book a call with our membership team if you wish to discuss.
