As HR departments strive to drive greater efficiency and elevate the employee experience, generative AI has emerged as a transformative tool.
By leveraging the capabilities of AI platforms like ChatGPT, HR professionals can access real-time assistance, create customised resources and streamline their workflows. Used appropriately, this tech can empower HR to create a more efficient and employee-centric work environment.
However, despite the vast potential of generative AI, recent research has revealed that most HR departments are approaching its adoption with trepidation.
In a survey conducted by Gartner, just five per cent of HR leaders reported that their function has already implemented generative AI, with a further nine per cent reporting that they are currently conducting generative AI pilots.
Despite this, the majority of respondents saw AI as an unavoidable part of HR’s future. Sixty per cent are participating in enterprise-wide discussions around their organisation’s use of generative AI, and only 14 per cent said they were not planning to make use of AI in the near future.
“Progressive organisations will begin to broaden how they use generative AI – for instance, our survey revealed more than one quarter of HR leaders are planning to use generative AI to develop personalised career development plans,” said Helen Poitevin, Distinguished VP Analyst at Gartner.
“HR expects to take a leading role in the evolution of generative AI; 35 per cent of HR leaders who responded to Gartner’s survey expect to lead their organisation’s enterprise-wide AI ethics approach.”
In order to drive the successful adoption of this transformative technology organisation-wide, HR professionals first need to get comfortable using it as part of their internal processes.
