The State of AI in Australian Human Resources

The State of AI in Australian Human Resources

December 2024

The increasing use of AI represents one of the most significant changes in Australian workplaces in generations. In partnership with Queensland University of Technology (QUT), AHRI has conducted a survey of employers that explores the specific impact of AI on the HR function and workplaces in Australia. As the research shows, while HR practitioners clearly recognise AI’s potential to enhance performance and productivity, there are concerns about the risks associated with adopting AI, especially pertaining to fairness, discrimination, and accuracy.

Key Findings

Three quarters of HR professionals say they have no knowledge understanding of AI.

Most organisations are not using, or planning to use AI to screen, shortlist, test or interview candidates.

39% of HR professionals believe AI in recruitment discriminates against under-represented groups.

HR professionals think AI provides productivity and performance benefits but does not drive job losses.
