Course overview

Learn how to confidently identify, assess, and implement reasonable workplace adjustments that enable neurodivergent employees to perform at their best. This session equips HR professionals and managers with practical strategies to remove barriers, support performance, and foster sustainable, neuroinclusive workplace practices.

HR professionals and managers play a key role in creating inclusive, high-performing workplaces. In this interactive two-hour online session, participants will:

Build practical capability to understand neurodiversity in the workplace

Apply legal and organisational requirements

Assess and respond to adjustment requests

Embed inclusive practices that balance individual, team, and business needs

The session focuses primarily on office-based and knowledge-work environments, with examples and principles that are broadly transferable to other workplace settings. Participants will leave with practical tools and reference resources to immediately support their teams and embed neuroinclusive practices in the workplace.

Key learning outcomes

Explain neurodiversity using a strengths-based lens, including an overview of autism (ASD) and ADHD in the workplace. 

Identify common workplace barriers experienced by neurodivergent employees and distinguish between individual and system-level barriers. 

Describe what constitutes a reasonable adjustment under Australian legislation and apply this understanding in workplace contexts. 

Assess and respond to workplace adjustment requests with confidence, balancing individual needs, team impact, and business requirements. 

Clarify the respective roles of managers and HR in enabling, implementing, and reviewing workplace adjustments. 

Evaluate the effectiveness of workplace adjustments over time and recognise when it may be appropriate to decline or modify a request.

Meet your Facilitator

This session will be facilitated by David Smith, Co-Founder and Director of Employ for Ability, an Australian organisation specialising in neurodiversity-affirming training, coaching, and workplace capability development.

A qualified Developmental Educator, David brings extensive experience supporting neurodivergent individuals and advising managers and HR professionals on practical, strengths-based approaches to workplace adjustments and inclusion. Employ for Ability’s facilitation team also includes practitioners with backgrounds in developmental education, education and workplace training, alongside lived experience of neurodivergence.
