Here are some common questions we are asked.

You can choose to study AHRI’s BSB40420 Certificate IV in Human Resources Management via distance or virtual workshop mode. Both options run over a study period of 9-months.

Studying via distance is a popular option for those that are unable to be absent from work to attend the full-day virtual workshops. This form of independent study requires a self-motivated approach to studying. Students will take responsibility for their own learning process – using their initiative in researching, time management and understanding and applying links between theory and practice. Assessment due dates are the same across both modes and units are undertaken in a sequential order.

There are no pre-requisites for entry into the program. However, if you are not currently working in an HR-related role, AHRI strongly encourages studying via virtual workshop delivery, which gives you the opportunity for facilitator-led sessions and peer discussions.

For more information on the differences between distance and virtual workshop mode, refer to the Program Information guide here.

The distance, self-directed mode costs $2,800 and the facilitator-led virtual workshop mode is $3,400 for non-AHRI members.

AHRI members receive a $600 discount for both modes. Click here to learn more about AHRI membership.

At present, AHRI’s Certificate IV in Human Resources Management program is not available on-demand. There are three intakes offered at specific times throughout the year. The 9-month program is offered in all intakes (via distance or virtual workshop mode). The current program dates can be found here.

All participants who successfully complete the program will be allocated 48 AHRI CPD points.

If you have existing qualifications or experience, you could be eligible to receive credit towards the outcomes of the program through skills recognition. There are two types of skills recognition: Credit transfer (CT) and recognition of prior learning (RPL).

Credit Transfer applies when a student has already met the learning/competency outcomes of the Certificate IV in Human Resources Management program through previous formal learning. Alternatively, skills and knowledge gained informally through life and work experience – which meet the competency requirements of VET training – can be formally recognised through RPL.

To assess your eligibility for CT or RPL and make an application, visit this page on our website.

AHRI does not currently offer a Diploma of Human Resources. For experienced HR professionals with at least five years’ HR experience, or HR graduates with at least two years’ HR experience, we offer the AHRI Practising Certification (APC) program which is equivalent to an AQF Level 8 postgraduate certificate level, providing you advanced entry into Masters of HR or MBA qualifications.

To learn more about the APC program, visit this page on our website. You may also be interested in AHRI’s suite of short courses for other upskilling opportunities. Click here to learn more.

The updated BSB40420 release includes eight units of competency which are equivalent to the previous package, but have been refreshed and updated to align with updated industry practices. Four units of competency are new and have been designed to complement the existing package design. Two units of competency have been archived in the current packaging rules (some of which have been integrated into new units of competency). In short, AHRI’s Certificate IV has increased from six to seven topics of study, and the course now has a total of 12 competencies, up from 10 in the BSB41015 package.

New elective competencies that are not covered in the BSB41015 package include:

BSBCMM412 Lead difficult conversations

BSBOPS405 Organise business meetings

BSBTEC404 Use digital technologies to collaborate in a work environment

BSBHRM531 Coordinate health and wellness programs

We have extended the study period from 6 months to 9 months for both virtual workshop and distance study modes.

Students who have completed the BSB41015, and wish to upgrade their qualification, may be eligible to apply for credit transfer for a number of units.

Contact our AHRI team to enquire about your eligibility for credit transfer at [email protected] or call (03) 9918 9230.

Note: Credit Transfer applications with supporting documents must be submitted before the close of enrolment for each intake.
