Rachel Worrall CPHR, HR Business Partner, Horizon Nuclear Power
Building organisational credibility to develop and deliver a new nuclear power station for Wales.
“Valuable lesson: keep focus, keep courage and keep caring about the impact you have on others to make progress the right way."
Horizon Nuclear Power was a new investment project for two nuclear new-build sites in Wales and the UK, and had to build its technical, leadership and infrastructure capability.
Rachel Worrall developed internal talent resourcing functions and processes in HR and the business, and created performance plans to align with evolving business needs and milestones.
Rachel’s team more than quadrupled the workforce over two-and-a-half years to 368 professionals in 2016. Merit-based hiring grew from five to 75 per cent, and a strategy for quality permanent/fixed term hires saved £592,240 over a year.
Retention increased by 15 per cent, sustained over 18 months. Succession, talent identification and engagement strategies increased employee, stakeholder and market confidence in the organisation.
“Building Horizon required creating teams comprised of local and international talent who brought diverse thinking and experience.
Creating and keeping a sense of trust, enjoyment and commitment was key to delivering sustainable high performance.”
