This pathway is available to HR practitioners and academics who have achieved the equivalent of Certified Practitioner and Academic status by attaining the Chartered MCIPD, Chartered FCIPD, Academic MCIPD or Academic FCIPD categories from the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development in the United Kingdom.
"Pursuing certified practitioner status is about closing the gap between rhetoric and realism, being responsible for upholding and contributing to a standard of excellence that distinguishes us."

AHRI and CIPD reciprocity agreement
In August 2013, CIPD and AHRI signed an agreement enabling mutual recognition for individuals holding corresponding professional grades of membership in either body.
This means that Chartered Members and Academics of the CIPD (Chartered MCIPD/FCIPD or Academic MCIPD/FCIPD) are recognised as being equivalent to AHRI professional members who have successfully undertaken one of the HR certification pathways to become an AHRI certified HR practitioner or academic.
If you are a Chartered Member or Academic of the CIPD, you can apply to have the equivalent certified practitioner or academic status in Australia.
Who can apply?
Current Chartered Members and Academics who have already achieved with the CIPD, the levels of
- Chartered MCIPD/ FCIPD or
- Academic MCIPD/ FCIPD
will be automatically recognised at the equivalent of the new certified practitioner or academic levels, and can apply for an AHRI membership under the terms of the reciprocity agreement.
AHRI may request evidence of a completed CIPD qualification or experience assessment in addition to your CV and evidence of your CIPD membership.
Annual AHRI membership fees
- $242 (including GST) per year for applicants within Australia
- GST is not applicable for members residing outside of Australia, however overseas members will be charged a $32 postage fee in addition to their membership fee. This additional fee includes the international postage charges to send HRM magazine by mail. If you do not wish to receive a printed copy of the magazine, please let us know via firstname.lastname@example.org and we will remove this additional fee from your membership charges. You will still be able access a digital copy of the HRM magazine through your AHRI member profile.
Past or lapsed CIPD members will need to renew their CIPD membership to apply for AHRI membership under the terms of this agreement
