Tom Barratt is a labour geographer employed as a senior lecturer at the University of Western Australia, with a background in industrial relations and social geography. His research examines the importance of where work occurs in understanding how, and on what terms, it occurs, looking both at labour market institutions and the experience of work. Empirically, Tom examines work in peripheral resource regions and in Australia’s gig economy. He is currently completing an Australian Research Council DECRA Fellowship, looking at how the gig economy is fragmenting work
