2023 NBL Coach of the Year Adam Forde, has not taken the conventional route to becoming head coach in a national sports league. With an eclectic résumé ranging from being a croupier to a prison guard, Forde brings his extensive life experiences to the benefit of the Taipans – the only national sports team of Cairns.  

Well-regarded throughout Australian basketball for his calculated coaching, meticulous scouting and strong player relationships; he recently earned a spot on the San Antonio Spurs coaching roster for the 2023 NBA Summer League. 

Originally from Western Australia, “Fordey” began his journey in the NBL when he joined the Wildcats in 2011 as an assistant. He went on to be part of four championships with Perth, before taking his talents to Sydney.  

He was signed by the Taipans on an initial two-year contract in 2021, which was extended halfway through his second season for another two years. Forde won the club’s Commitment to the Community Award in 2023, for his contributions to Cairns.
