Biography
Mathew Paine is the Executive General Manager – People and Culture, Australian Financial Complaints Authority. Most recently Mathew was Chief People Officer at the NSW Government Department of Planning and Environment. Mathew is President of the Board of Directors at the Bobby Goldsmith Foundation (Australia’s longest-running HIV charity), co-convener of the AHRI’s NSW IR/ER committee, and an AHRI Diversity and Inclusion Advisory Panel member. With over 20 years’ senior HR management experience within the private, government and not-for-profit sectors in Australia, NZ, and the UK, Paine’s role includes supporting the Department’s 15,500 team members and a $1.79 billion annual workforce budget leading talent acquisition, people capability and development, strategic work effectiveness, and diversity inclusion. HR industry accolades under Mathew’s leadership include the Australian HR Team of the Year Award, Best Recruitment Campaign Award, Inclusive Workplace Award, Talent Development Award, Education and Training Award, HR Person of the Year, and the NSW Training Awards Large Employer of the Year.
Mathew holds a Master of Strategic Human Resource Management from East London University and a master’s degree in Labour Law & Relations from Sydney University Law School. He is also a Chartered Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD, U.K), a Certified Fellow of the AHRI, and a Graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors.
