Biography

A decorated Australian Socceroo and the team’s 40th Captain, Craig Foster is one of Australia’s most respected broadcasters, social justice advocates, and human rights campaigners.  

His broadcasting career includes a triple Logie-winning 18 years with SBS as Chief Football Analyst with The World Game (TWG) team and sports presenter, and he now covers the UEFA Champions League for Stan Sport Australia.  

Highly active on social justice issues, Craig is a prominent member of several organizations including the Australian Multicultural Council where he works across programs covering indigenous rights, homelessness, domestic violence, climate action, and gender equality, and is particularly well known for his refugee advocacy. He is a member of Amnesty Australia, the Affinity Intercultural Foundation, and the Human Rights Watch Committee, and an Ambassador for the Addison Road Community Centre.  

In 2021, Craig was awarded the Member of the Order of Australia (AM) for his services to multiculturalism, human rights, and refugee support organizations. He was recognized as the Australian Father of the Year in September 2022, and was elected as the Chair of the National Committee of the Australian Republic Movement in November 2022. He is currently the NSW Australian of the Year for 2023. Craig is a Professor of Sport and Social Responsibility at Torrens University, Australia, and holds a Bachelor of Laws (LLB), a Master’s Degree in International Sports Management, and a Postgraduate Degree in Football Management.
