Course Overview – Writing Advanced Investigation Reports and Allegations
This short course is split into two sections, part one Allegations and part two Reports.

Day 1 – Allegations
Writing good allegations is a science, needing a robust approach and a good understanding of the risks and rights involved. This course provides learners with a formula and methodology for writing allegations which are driven by procedural fairness and will work within any policy or workplace context. Using real scenarios, issue-spotting exercises, and drafting techniques, the skills in this course will help save time, energy, and conflict during investigations. 

Day 2 – Reports
Writing investigation reports is an artform which challenges even the most seasoned investigators. This course outlines a clear procedure for investigation reporting, including every aspect from stepping out a methodology to analysing evidence. The course also includes guidance on the external challenges associated with reporting, including privacy, the perception of bias, and adverse action risks. Learners also receive templates, samples, style guide and key phrases to guide every kind of investigation report.

Key Learning Outcomes 
Day 1 – Allegations

• Define what belongs in an allegation or particular, and what does not
• Understand why and when allegations must be prepared
• Identify issues which may be subject of allegations, and which may not
• Frame allegations and particulars in a correct and precise manner
• Identify, pre-empt, and troubleshoot common issues with allegations
• Prepare letters of allegation that meet legal requirements

Day 2 – Reports

• Know what must appear in an investigation report, and where
• Understand the limits of the investigator’s role and how this impacts reporting
• Apply a consistent and correct writing style with minimal repetition
• Identify and summarise only relevant evidence
• Analyse evidence for relevance, consistency, reliability, and past or patterns of conduct
• Draw correct, evidence-based findings as to facts and breaches
• Handle situations where evidence is incomplete or insufficient
• Demonstrate procedural fairness in all aspects of reporting
