Professional Networking Masterclass
The ACT AHRI Council, in partnership with Voak, are proud to present a Masterclass series of events focused on Professional Networking in a post COVID environment. While the series is designed for the events to build on the previous, individual events will offer attendees significant value and learning opportunities.
The three events are:
Wednesday, 1 May 2024
INTRODUCEThe ACT Council is pleased to present the first event in our Masterclass series, “INTRODUCE”. Facilitated by Andrew Marshall, Practice Director, Voak Talent and ACT AHRI Council Members, the session will delve into what professional networking is in a post Covid environment, and how it can contribute to achieving personal and professional career goals and outcomes.
This will be a hybrid event, featuring an educational session followed by a panel discussion of senior HR practitioners on Professional Networking and Collaboration. Aimed at providing an introduction to the concept of professional networking, with practical ways to help you engage with and manage your network in a post Covid environment.
The Panel will feature Belinda Casson, Andrew Mann and Jess Lees.
July 2024 (date TBC)
PRACTICE – an in-person Speed Networking event which will provide attendees an opportunity to practice the concepts and practical tips provided in INTRODUCE. We will provide a casual atmosphere with fun and engaging activities to help you expand your professional network.
October 2024 (date TBC)
ELEVATE – an in-person Speed Mentoring event featuring some of the most senior and experienced HR professionals in the Canberra market. Attendees will have the opportunity to sit with a number of Mentors over the course of the evening, ask questions and get some insights into their journey, defining moments and lessons learned over the course of their long and storied careers. We will share the list of Mentors who have committed to contribute closer to the date, however we’re very excited with the calibre! Senior Practitioners from the private and public sectors are keen to attend!

Facilitator: Andrew Marshall, Practice Director, Voak Talent
A Certified HR Practitioner and Talent specialist with over 20 years’ experience across a number of industries, including Government, Commerce & Industry and Hospitality, Andrew brings a private sector focus on achieving results, gaining efficiencies and delivering outcomes, and with over a decade of public service experience.

Speaker: Belinda Casson – Chief People Officer, Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade
Belinda has been DFAT’s Chief People Officer / FAS, People Division since January 2023. Before joining DFAT, she was the acting Deputy Secretary / Chief Operating Officer at the Department of Employment and Workplace Relations (DEWR), and prior to this was DEWR’s Chief People Officer / FAS, People Division.
Belinda has also held senior HR and corporate roles at Department of Finance, ATO, Department of Education and Training, and Department of Health, and has extensive national policy experience in workplace relations and work health safety.
Speaker: Andrew Mann – Senior Director, Executive Leadership and Talent, ACT Government
Andrew first joined AHRI in 1997 and has broad experience across a range of HR functions in Queensland State Government, voluntary and private sector in the UK, a number of Australian Commonwealth Departments.
He now leads Senior Executive Development and Talent across the ACT Public Service. Andrew has a Bachelor of Business and a Masters of Education, is a Graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors and a Fellow of the Australian Human Resources Institute. His key professional interests at the moment are how to influence leadership culture, and employee wellbeing, engagement and productivity in hybrid working environments.
Speaker: Jess Lees – Senior Manager, Scyne Advisory and Co-Founder of the Canberra HR Network
Jess is a seasoned Senior Manager with over 15 years of experience in the private sector, spanning energy, utilities, resources, manufacturing and management consulting. With a curious and open-minded approach, Jess thrives on networking, especially supporting and connecting others to grow their careers.
With a commercial mindset and adaptability, Jess has held senior roles in HRM, organisational strategy, enterprise transformation, and operations, making significant contributions to the Australian energy landscape. Known for building effective relationships across all levels, from the Boardroom to the frontline, Jess excels in turning strategic thinking into actionable initiatives.
A leader in enterprise change and people transformation programs, Jess specialises in formulating impactful people strategies, revamping end-to-end people processes, and navigating complex workplace relations in industrial settings. With a dynamic approach, Jess is shaping the future of work by optimising employee experience solutions and driving positive organisational change.
