Recognition of prior learning

Have you studied before, or gained significant work experience in the past? Then you may qualify for study credits through AHRI’s recognition of prior learning (RPL) or Credit Transfer (CT) pathways.

Skills Recognition

AHRI recognises the skills and knowledge you have gained through formal study, life/work experience and non-accredited training. Through our Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) and Credit Transfer (CT) pathways, you can be awarded credit towards the outcomes of the APC program to help you fast track your studies.

Units eligible for skills recognition:

The capstone unit (Unit 4) is not available for skills recognition. Candidates who successfully receive skills recognition for Units 1, 2 and 3 will be eligible to enrol directly into Unit 4 Capstone: Applied project in organisational capability.

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL)

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) is the recognition of skills and knowledge gained through life and work experience and through non-accredited training.
 

To undertake an RPL assessment, you will need to be an AHRI professional member and have 6+ years of recent experience in an HR generalist role.

How to apply for RPL

Before you proceed, please ensure you have an active AHRI professional membership. Not yet a member? Join today.

The eligibility check provides a preliminary assessment of your previous work experience, against relevant skills and knowledge requirements of the RPL assessment. You will need to complete and upload the following documents as part of your free eligibility check:

  • Your current CV (including a brief overview demonstrating your 6+ years’ generalist HR experience), and
  • Any relevant academic transcripts.

Your documents will be reviewed and you will a receive a recommendation within ten (10) business days.

If you are deemed eligible to undertake an RPL application, you will receive a link to make payment for the RPL application.

Please note that refunds will not be provided for unsuccessful RPL applications. Prior to payment:

  • Familiarise yourself with the RPL evidence requirements identified in the sample RPL application form and guide.
  • Ensure your AHRI professional membership is active.

Once your payment is received you will receive further information, including access to the AHRI Student Portal, where you will complete your RPL application, and provide your supporting evidence, and it submit it for assessment via the student portal.

Your application will be assessed by an RPL assessor and you will be informed of your outcome within five (5) business days.

If your RPL outcome is successful, you will then be eligible to enrol in any remaining units of study. Ensure you complete your enrolment before the registration close date.

Credit Transfer (CT)

Credit Transfer is the recognition of previously completed formal training and/or qualifications. If you are eligible, applying for a Credit Transfer will enable you to fast track your Certification journey.

Eligibility for credit transfer into the APC program requires:

 Completion of a relevant postgraduate (AHRI accredited at time of completion) 

  • 2+ years experience in a Human Resources generalist role

As part of your submission you will be required to provide supporting evidence of this criteria which includes a current CV and relevant academic transcripts.

To enrol for Credit Transfer, have the below documents ready for submission:

  1. A copy of your current CV;
  2. A certified copy of your AHRI accredited postgraduate academic transcript; and
  3. A completed Credit Transfer application form: Download Credit Transfer application form
  4. Please complete the online application form and upload the above documents.

If your Credit Transfer outcome is successful, you are eligible to enrol in the next applicable full-study unit.

To ensure that you do not miss your preferred trimester study period, please apply according to the trimester dates.
