Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL)

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) is the recognition of skills and knowledge gained through life and work experience and through non-accredited training.

Units eligible for skills recognition:

The capstone unit (Unit 4) is not available for skills recognition. Candidates who successfully receive skills recognition for Units 1, 2 and 3 will be eligible to enrol directly into Unit 4 Capstone: Applied project in organisational capability.

Who can apply for RPL?

To undertake an RPL assessment, you will need to be an AHRI professional member and have 6+ years of recent experience in an HR generalist role.

What is an HR generalist?  

HR generalists are required to have broad knowledge of HR and people matters, and be able to turn their hand to different aspects of HR from planning to recruitment, performance management to termination, reporting to evaluation.

Step 1: Apply for a free RPL Eligibility Check

The eligibility check provides a preliminary assessment of your previous work experience, against relevant skills and knowledge requirements of the RPL assessment. You will need to complete and upload the following documents as part of your free eligibility check:

  • Your current CV (including a brief overview demonstrating your 6+ years’ generalist HR experience), and
  • Any relevant academic transcripts.

Your documents will be reviewed and you will a receive a recommendation within approximately ten (10) business days.

Step 2: Eligibility confirmation and RPL application payment

If you are deemed eligible to undertake an RPL application, you will receive a link to make payment for the RPL application.

Please note that refunds will not be provided for unsuccessful RPL applications. Prior to payment:

  • Familiarise yourself with the RPL evidence requirements identified in the sample RPL application form and guide.
  • Ensure your AHRI professional membership is active.

Step 3: Complete your RPL application

Once your payment is received you will receive further information, including access to the AHRI Student Portal, where you will complete your RPL application, and provide your supporting evidence, and it submit it for assessment via the student portal.

Step 4: Receive your RPL outcome

Your application will be assessed by an RPL assessor and you will be informed of your outcome within approximately five (5) business days.

Step 5: Enrol into the APC program

If your RPL outcome is successful, you will then be eligible to enrol any remaining units of study. Ensure you complete your enrolment before the registration close date.
