The program has a holistic approach, aiming to provide professional support but also personal encouragement on ambitions and goals, as well as managing stress levels and resolving problems to boost confidence and self-esteem.

There are many benefits for the mentor:

  • Further development of mentoring skills including; providing feedback, communication and interpersonal skills
  • Gaining a sense of personal and professional satisfaction
  • Contributing back to the profession
  • Mentoring hours qualify as a part of CPD hours
  • Staying in touch with emerging issues relevant to less experienced HR professionals

Skills and experience required

A mentor is an experienced HR practitioner who has several years of industry experience and who feels they could assist in the growth of a less experienced HR practitioner. A mentor is a person who shares knowledge, offers advice, shares experiences and provides support to assist in the career development and professional growth of a mentee.

Time commitment

The AHRI Mentoring Program typically runs over a 12 month period. For the duration of the program mentors and mentees are responsible for ongoing contact. The format of the relationship will be determined by the pair and may include e-mail, phone, Skype or face-to-face meetings. You will be encouraged to be active and communicate regularly with your match as much as possible.

Networking events will be held during the program, which provide participants the opportunity to share experiences and meet fellow participants. Regular communications and newsletters will be emailed out to participants to keep you informed of upcoming events, webinars and articles of interest and we encourage participants to provide feedback throughout the program to help avoid any issues and for future planning purposes.
