sportsmed teams were not working as effectively as they could due to a lack of clearly defined behaviours and accountability at all levels. There was some distrust among some teams and this was impacting on the business.
We partnered with Leading Teams to transform the way we do things at sportsmed. We accepted that to be a high-performing team and deliver best patient care, we needed to place more emphasis on relationships rather than on the ‘mechanics’ of the business. We adopted the Leading Teams model.
The initiative is an ongoing process. It has improved relationships between the surgeons and staff, and staff feel empowered to challenge surgeons. Measurement will be through staff surveys, observations and use of language consistent with agreed behaviours.
